 tip sheet: Entrepreneurial Resilience

The future is unclear and the potential for life-altering losses can seem very high.

When we understand our voice in times of loss, we are better able to manage ourselves and support others.

For small businesses, loss can come in many forms:
• Struggles with business survival
• Loss of dreams for the future
• Loss of what was a normal life
• Employees that are struggling
• Financial challenges

Download this tip sheet to help you gain tools and strategies for the road ahead.

In the light of covid-19…

We are currently working on converting the Time for a Change training program into a virtual format.

Here’s how that’s looking right now:

  1. Immediately available are our two online training courses. We’ve now made these free with no registration process, so you can use them quickly and easily when you need them. You can check our Business Planning and Marketing 101 courses here.
  2. Virtual coaching sessions are available via the Zoom video conferencing platform, also immediately. If you are an existing or soon-to-be small business owner and want to set up a coaching session, please contact your local Program Coordinator to set one up. You can find their contact details below.
  3. We are currently working on converting our planned schedule of training workshops into webinar or online format. Please bookmark this page and come back often to check in with our progress.
  4. Small business loans continue to be available. Please contact your local Program Coordinator to discuss options and how to apply – contact details below.

entrepreneurship workshops

Here’s what we have planned from Fall 2019 to Spring 2021:

Our in-class workshops cover a variety of topics and are focused on the practical needs of a business owner, from exploring your suitability as a entrepreneur to writing that first business plan to take to the bank.

We cover existing small businesses, too. Examining subjects such as: how to make your business more efficient; how to diversify your offerings; how to plan for future change.

We also look at the core soft skills it takes to run a business. Things like leadership, productivity, and communication skills.

Book these low-cost workshops on an individual basis, or in discounted packages (where available).

To find out which workshops are available in your area contact your local Community Futures office here.

How does business coaching work?

One to one coaching is available to those who are looking to focus on a specific issue. Ranging from a single session to several meetings, we offer solution-focused guidance while you are still very much in the driving seat.

Coaching is suitable for a variety of subjects including creating that first business plan, trouble-shooting an operational issue, or looking at ways your business can ramp up to that next level. Come to us with your needs, commit to the process, and we’ll do our best to create a coaching plan that works for you.

Coaching is available at your local Community Futures office. It can be a standalone process or provided in conjunction with our small business workshops. It is open to existing business owners and new entrepreneurs who are taking the first steps towards their start-up.

Business coaching is FREE in coal shut-down areas!
